HERMISTON SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Hermiston School District is the largest school district in Eastern Oregon, exceeding 5,000 students, and continues to experience steady growth. It serves students in grades kindergarten through 12, with a broad range of programs from basic skills to vocational opportunities to advanced placement classes. The school district includes a 9-12 senior high school, two 6-8 middle schools, and five K-5 elementary schools, all within the city limits.
Support for the school district has been strong from the community! In 2001, voters approved a $39 million building program, which included the construction of a new high school, Desert View Elementary School, and renovations at Highland Hills Elementary School. The voters also approved a $69.9 million bond in 2008, which replaced Armand Larive Middle School (built in 1936), West Park Elementary School (built in 1950), and Sunset Elementary School (built in 1957), as well as allowed for minor improvements to facilities across the district.
The district’s reputation is further enhanced by an extraordinary network of supporting businesses and individuals who continue to invest their time, talents and resources into the education program. Many parents from surrounding communities choose to send their children to Hermiston because of the high-quality, comprehensive education programs it offers. As a result, Hermiston continues to experience a growing student population.
The District employs about 260 teachers, 15 administrators and 175 support staff, making it the 7th largest employer in the city. Serving some 22,000 residents in Hermiston and the surrounding communities; around 35 percent of the total population is of Hispanic origin. The District is proud to offer Advanced Placement courses, dual-credit opportunities, and elective courses including manufacturing and construction technology, performing and fine arts, Spanish, wellness and athletic professional-preparatory courses, and career and technology education courses. The athletic program includes football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, track, tennis, wrestling, swimming, soccer, and softball, and available activities include award-winning FFA, FCCLA, and DECA organizations, as well as color guard, dance team, marching band, pep band, debate, rally, and vocal music
With great staff members serving the needs of all children with rigorous program choices, high expectations, mutual respect, and excellence in all endeavors, Hermiston School District is on the path to become the premier public school district in Oregon.

EOU’S founding MISSION is to serve the community and the region. The University’s goals
continue to be providing the citizens of the region with access to a quality education, delivering affordable programs, and engaging with the rural and frontier regions of the state. EOU’s rural geographic location, traditions and work ethic play an important role in the school’s history as it explores the new dimensions of work and society in a changing local and global environment. College is the OPPORTUNITY of a LIFETIME and every professor and staff member at EOU is dedicated to working with students throughout their college journey. Students can fit in here, on a campus where they can be active and involved, learning in small classes all taught by full-time faculty. It’s a private college experience without the high price tag.
EOU’s new courses and programs will include offerings in business, education, and liberal studies. EOU also will continue to offer its full range of nine majors and more than 19 minors completely online through its regional center co-located with BMCC and staffed by Regional Director Jacelyn Keys.
